Joe's Garden

Welcome to my website!

I am a student living in the beautiful city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. On this website I will post photos and information of plants that I grow, to share my experience and knowledge with other plant enthusiasts around the world. Note that I grow mainly herbaceous perennials, and I have a particular interest in orchids. If you like orchids, you'll find lots to read about them here as time goes on!

My garden is located in a USDA zone 3 area, where temperatures can exceed 30 degrees Celsius for a week or so during the summer (averaging closer to 20 degrees), and can dip to as low as -40 degrees Celsius during the winter for a period, often with heavy snowfall (winter temps average near -25 degrees Celsius). Summers are very dry usually however. With such extreme conditions, many plants are difficult to very difficult to grow here, but many Edmonton gardeners (like myself) have a taste for exotic plants and so we have a number of tricks that we use to get the best results we can. As well, we have many strikingly beautiful native plants in our area that are of course well-suited to our extreme climate.
